چکیده

Assessments of water and energy security over historical future periods require hydrologic models that can accurately simulate reservoir operations. However, scare operation data limits the accuracy current representations in simulating behaviors. Furthermore, reliability these under changing inflow regimes remains unclear, which makes their application for long planning horizons questionable. To this end, we propose a synergistic framework to predict release, storage, hydropower production ungauged reservoirs (i.e., without in-situ inflow, operating rules) by combining remotely sensed patterns model-simulated with conceptual schemes within land surface-hydrologic model. A previously developed scheme is extended storage anomaly based calibration approach accommodate relatively short time series large intervals data. By setting up controlled experiments Yalong River Basin China, show remote sensing improve parameter estimation simulations all selected schemes, thereby improving downstream flood streamflow simulations. most degraded accuracies regime, could lead unreliable assessments resources production. In comparison, our newly be more adaptable flow regime variations. Our study provides practical impact predictions ongoing satellite altimetry projects such as Surface Water Ocean Topography.

Integrating Satellite based Remote Sensing Observations with SCS Curve Number Method for Simplified Hydrologic Modeling in Ungauged Basins

Accurate estimation of spatial and temporal distribution of the water resources parameters is a crucial for hydrologic models. During the last decades, engineers and planners have shown keen interest in applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite based Remote Sensing (RS) technologies to extract land surface parameters, which acted as a threshold in early days, to obtain reasona...

Satellite Remote Sensing and Hydrological Modeling for Flood Inundation Mapping in Lake Victoria Basin: Implications for Hydrologic Prediction in Ungauged Basins

Floods are among the most catastrophic natural disasters around the globe impacting human lives and infrastructure. Implementation of a flood prediction system can potentially help mitigate flood-induced hazards. Such a system typically requires implementation and calibration of a hydrologic model using in situ observations (i.e., rain gauges and stream gauges). Recently, satellite remote sensi...

Remote Sensing of Impervious Surface Area for Improved Hydrologic Modeling

Impervious surface area (ISA), one of the consequences of urban development, has been used as an important indicator for environmental impacts of urbanization. In this study, we extracted ISA information for the state of Rhode Island, USA from 1-m spatial resolution true-color digital orthophotography data by an object-based classification. As the importance of ISA in the watersheds hydrology, ...

Reservoir Operation During Droughts

Drought is an inevitable part of the world’s climate. It occurs in wet as well as in dry regions. Therefore, planning for drought and mitigating its impacts is essential. In this study, a hedging rule is developed using the zero/one mixed integer-programming approach. Furthermore, some procedures are introduced to ease the computational burden inherent in integer programming. Hedging rules are ...
